The release of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were possibly the most comforting release ever. Sure, the iPhone X's changes are insanely cool — but a huge part of Team Apple was intimidated by the thought of making the leap to such a fancy spaceship phone. (An iPhone without a home button? What is this blasphemy?)
For those still stuck with an iPhone 6 or 7 but who aren't ready to convert to the X, the iPhone 8 is the perfect middle ground. The 8 features a gorgeous glass back (compared to the previous aluminum of the 7), a better camera with faster shutter speeds, and our beloved portrait mode. You're also getting updated speakers and wireless charging — all while still enjoying the beloved home button and touch ID. And everyone knows that having the bigger Plus immediately feels fancier. A nightmare became reality on Wednesday when the presidential text alert system sent its first test. Now, Donald Trump can technically text all of us whenever he wants, although it probably won't actually shake out that way.
Still, it's equal parts fun and terrifying to imagine the texts Trump might want to blast to the entire country, which SNL tackled in its "Emergency Alert" sketch Saturday night. The whole thing is framed as a commercial for Cricket Wireless — their service is so bad, you won't get the alerts at all. Where do we sign up?
Admit it: If you got a text alert that said "Puerto Rico is fine now! I guess the paper towels worked," you wouldn't be that surprised. Time to toss your phone into a vat of hot dog water and call it a day. Read more...More about Entertainment, Tv, Donald Trump, Saturday Night Live, and Entertainment
We're just a month away from the midterm elections, so...where's Megadeth when you need them?
By now, you're probably familiar with Rock the Vote, a voter mobilization nonprofit started by Virgin Records executive in John Ayeroff in 1990. The campaign blew up when it partnered with MTV in advance of the 1990 midterm elections.
The nonprofit is as active as ever. Still, it's the 1990 campaign – featuring LA Gear, Lenny Kravitz, Madonna, Megadeth, and freaking Deee-Lite – that we need today.
In 1988, less than 40 percent of eligible 18-24 year olds votedAccording to the Pew Research Center, just 20 percent of voters aged 18-24 vote in midterm elections nowadays. That's a marked decrease from 1964, where just over 50 percent of eligible voters in that demographic did. Read more...More about Watercooler, Mtv, Nostalgia, Culture, and Politics

Would it be okay with you if someone leaked your entire Google history to the government? How about if your internet provider made it so that one episode of Arrested Development took an hour to load?
If you've had a mental breakdown about anything related to the above, you've probably given some thought to getting a VPN.
We know you've seen a ton of VPN reviews from experts across the board, including from our tech team at Mashable. But if you wanted a more raw opinion — or thousands of them — from people with absolutely no filter, there's only one place to go: Reddit.Tech, Reddit, Internet Privacy, Vpn, and Mashable Shopping
With his bugged out eyes, elongated face, and overall turtle vibe, Beck Bennett is a brilliant Mitch McConnell. Hopefully he'll have many more opportunities to play the Senate majority leader as the G.O.P faces blowback after voting on Saturday to confirm a historically unpopular — and alleged sexual assaulter, let's not forget — the the U.S. Supreme Court.
The latest Saturday Night Live cold open skipped Matt Damon's Kavanaugh and Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump to focus on the imagined G.O.P. after-party following Kavanaugh's confirmation. It's a bunch of old white men jumping around awkwardly. Plus Susan Collins. Read more...More about Entertainment, Tv, Saturday Night Live, Brett Kavanaugh, and Entertainment
There’s nothing quite like kicking up your feet and popping open an ice cold beer when you get home. The only thing that might beat that? Washing down a beer that you brewed yourself.
Granted, homebrewing isn’t exactly a quick or easy task. However, homebrewers find real rewards and pleasure in cultivating this craft — including the occasional bragging rights.
The buzz kill: knowing what kind of beer brewing kit is complicated. Beer brewing niche blogs dispense with conflicting advice, like what size kettle you should invest in, or what type of auto siphon you should buy. If you’ve just begun this journey, you might be asking yourself, “So… what exactly is a wort anyway? And how do I safely sanitize my beers?” Read more...More about Beer, Food And Drink, Mashable Shopping, Culture, and Consumer Tech
