2019 Election: 'Wewill not endorse any presidential candidate' - CANThe Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) will not endorse any presidential candidate in the forthcoming election, president of the group, Rev. Samson Ayokunle said.   Ayokunle urged Nigerians to vote according to the leading of the Holy Spirit and their consciences, adding that credibility and integrity should guide their choice. The Presidential election, along with National Assembly election will hold on 16 February. CAN made its position known in a statement signed by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, the Special Assistant, Media and Communications to the CAN president.   Ayokunle said CAN is for God and His people and is apolitical, non-partisan and impartial. “Our members cut across all political divides and some of them are even contesting for one post or the other including the Presidential. So, the idea of endorsing any candidate as favourite does not arise. We have not and will not endorse any candidate for any elective office in the country,” he said.   CAN recently held a meeting with 14 Presidential Candidates in Abuja for briefings on their plans for the nation. Ayokunle said at the end of the meeting, the association came out with a position not to endorse any of the candidates. The CAN president said the association recognises Nigeria’s multi-religious and multicultural composition and it is not in denial of these realities.  “However, in our federal system, it is crucial for all constituents to commit to respect the fundamental human rights of other groups as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended. It is against this background that CAN raise serious concerns with the candidates over the sustained violent attacks and persecution of the Church in Nigeria today.CAN understands that if the principle of good governance (transparency, accountability, equity, inclusiveness and consensus building) are the hallmarks of governance, it would lead to accelerated development and prosperity for the people of Nigeria. This is our sincere desire, hope and prayer,” he said.  He said that the expectation of CAN was that whoever emerges as president and vice-president would address the myriad of critical national concerns and challenges. “In biblical times, God raised Prophets at different times to speak up against national leaders and policies that promoted injustice against the very people such leaders were called to serve. God placed the responsibility of the security and welfare of the citizens on leaders of nations. Nigeria cannot be an exception,” he said.   The cleric said the association noted with encouragement that the candidates interviewed subscribed to its (CAN’s) values as expected of the President of the Federal Republic. He added that actions should speak far louder than words if anyone of them is elected.   “To this end, CAN will watch closely as the character of the presidential candidates unfolds before, during and after the forthcoming elections,” he said. Ayokunle said that the Christian community is deeply concerned about the misfortunes that had befallen the Nigerian state in recent years. These concerns, which must never be swept under the carpet, make the strongest case for setting a standard for how responsible and well-meaning Nigerians should vote in the coming elections,” he stressed. The CAN president urged all Christians to ensure they were in possession of their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), and use sound judgment in voting. Ayokunle said that they should ensure that sentiments were eschewed and wisdom was applied in making the decision on the ballot paper.   “Let us be circumspect and discretional. Above all, let the Holy Spirit of God direct you in the voting. Think about the greater good of Nigeria, and not primordial sentiments. All Christians are enjoined to remain vigilant during the voting exercise and promptly report any suspicious undertaking at voting centres,” he advised.   He urged all Christians to stay away from any violence or mob action, whatsoever, no matter the provocation. “Decency, lawfulness and godliness should guide us in any act of disagreement”, he said. The cleric said the choice of CAN remains any candidate who exhibits godliness, trustworthiness, sincerity of purpose, decency, patriotism, true commitment to national service and who would show care for the Christian community in the nation.   “Christians are called upon to vote credible and trusted candidates into the various elective positions. We must also be discerning about their policy and the understanding of policy details,” he said. The post 2019 Election: 'Wewill not endorse any presidential candidate' - CAN appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Watch Bon Appetit's Claire Saffitz nearly break. Again. This time over Pringles.

The pasty chef tackled the recreation by first breaking down the texture of the snack: She noticed that Pringles are more of a "potato crisp" made of a powder composite than traditional thinly sliced potatoes.

"This is gonna be a project that's more about process and construction than flavor," she noted.

She rolled a combination of rice flour, ground potatoes, and cornstarch through a pasta press to nail down the signature paper-thin texture.

Next challenge: getting the shape down.

When drying the dough over a rolling pin and frying it between two slotted spoons didn't work, she went back to adjusting the potato composite. Eventually, she made a mold by hacking apart a sieve.  Read more...

In the end times, when the Earth is populated solely by roving bands of marauders, at least we'll know Apple was able to find new ways to profit from the iPhone.

The environmental nonprofit CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) dropped its latest report on Tuesday, and it's very depressing. The group asked more than 7,000 companies to share the risks and opportunities that come with climate change, reported Bloomberg. And it turns out there is money to be made even in a world ravaged by drought and storms.

Apple notes that "as people begin to experience severe weather events with greater frequency, we expect an increasing need for confidence and preparedness in the arena of personal safety and the well-being of loved ones." Read more...

'This is false, disrespectful and against my morals' - Chris Browncries out as he denies rape allegationsAmerican R&B star, Chris Brown was arrested in Paris on Monday after a woman filed a report of aggravated rape against him. At the moment,  Brown, his bodyguard, and one other person remain in custody while investigators look into the claim. Officially reacting to the allegations, Chris Brown took to Instagram to post an image that reads “THIS B!TCH LYIN’” and in the caption, Brown denies the accusations. “I wanna make it perfectly clear, this is false and a whole lot of cap. For my daughter and family, this is so disrespectful and is against my character and morals'. In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to the felony assault of Rihanna. Chris Brown, his bodyguard, and a friend were arrested yesterday in Paris after a woman accused them of raping her in a hotel. The alleged rape victim has now spoken out. The 24-year-old model claims she was raped by three men including rapper Chris Brown during a drug-fuelled party that turned 'violent and brutal' at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Paris. The unnamed woman says she was attacked by Chris Brown, his bodyguard, and a family friend. Her allegation led to an investigation which resulted in the arrest of Chris Brown, and his companions on Monday. Brown and co are still in custody in a Paris police station facing the threat of criminal charges that could see them imprisoned. In an interview with French Closer magazine, the woman said she met Chris Brown through a friend who works at the Crystal Lounge nightclub on the Champs Elysee. She said:This friend asked me what I was doing the next day, and if I would like to meet Chris Brown,' said the woman, who finally met the rapper on January 15.I said yes and the next day, on Tuesday, I had an appointment at 11.30pm at the Mandarin Oriental hotel to meet the rapper. At the reception of the hotel, I found myself with friends of his and other girls. We went up to his suite to pick him up and we all went to a nightclub called 'The Quay'.Everything was going well. Around 4am, they decided to go back to the hotel. I wanted to go home, but someone in Chris Brown's entourage took me by the arm and said: 'Come on, we'll have a good evening.'Leaving the nightclub, there were two Mercedes vans that were full up. So I said, 'There's no place, I'm going home.' Then I was told, 'No, come on!'. And I was put in Chris Brown's car with another girl. The group arrived at Chris Brown's room at the five-star hotel.  The woman adds: Before entering the suite, the bodyguard took all our cell phones. It didn't seem surprising given the artist's notoriety and I didn't worry. Once in the suite, we were offered drinks. There was cocaine and cannabis. There were about fifteen girls, friends of Chris Brown. The music was loud, people were coming in and out ... It was a bit chaotic. She continued: At one point, I went to the bathroom. Chris Brown followed me and took me by the right arm. He made me enter a sort of dressing room. He closed the door. There, Brown allegedly raped her. Describing the attack, the woman said: It lasted 25 to 30 minutes. It's still too difficult for me to explain in detail what he did, but it was brutal and violent. He was threatening and aggressive. I was very afraid. Once it was over, he opened the door. I told him that I wanted to pick up my cell phone and go home.Chris Brown went to see one of his friends. I thought this person was going to accompany me to the bodyguard for my cell phone, but that's not what he did.He took me to his room, he locked the door and he abused me too. It was the same with the bodyguard All I wanted to do was go home. I was too scared. There were three muscular men, aggressive and menacing. I couldn't do anything. I'm traumatized, I can't overcome what happened to me and resume my habits. It's horrible, I'm lost. The woman said she finally escaped by lying that she had to go to bed because she had classes the following day.She said:  I said that I had to go to bed, that I had classes the next day. I cried. When he saw me like that, he returned my cell phone and I left. The alleged rape happened on January 16 but the woman didn't go to the police until January 18. She said this is because she was scared due to the fact that they have her address, her phone number, and her picture.Speaking on what made her finally go to the police, she said: I didn't want them to be able to do the same thing to other girls. Chris Brown is the kind of person who thinks himself powerful and thinks himself above the law, but no. I'll go to the end. Abused three times in the same evening by three different men – it's unbearable to live with. When asked if other women there were raped too, she said: I don't know. Sometimes girls do not dare to speak. They are scared and I understand them, but I want them to stop doing this to girls who have not asked for anything.I just thought I was having a good night with a star. I didn't imagine that I was going to find myself locked up with aggressive and menacing men who forced me to do things I did not want to do. Chris Brown, his bodyguard, and his friend face charges of  'aggravated rape' and 'violation of drugs legislation', including using a 'banned drug'.The post 'It was brutal and violent. It lasted 25 or 30 minutes': says the woman who alleges she was raped by Chris Brown in a hotel in Paris appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Americans find modern climate science increasingly convincing, and a damaging mix of exceptional drought, storms, and record-breaking heat is the reason why.

The results of a new survey — conducted in November 2018 by the University of Chicago's Energy Policy Institute and the research organization The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Researchfound that nearly half of Americans said today's climate science "is more convincing than five years ago, with extreme weather driving their views."

Overall, seven in 10 Americans reported that climate change is happening.

“The results of the survey demonstrate that most Americans consider climate change a reality and acknowledge that human activity is at least somewhat responsible,” Trevor Tompson, director of The AP-NORC Center, said in a statement.  Read more...
